Error when opening a protected workbook with hardware-locked key

Hello,
I have uploaded my version of xlspadlock to version 2.1. I have protected a workbook with a hardware-locked key. However, once I enter the activation key, the workbook does not open. I get an error message saying “cannot create file “:i\Office\TH1PG\data.gdg”. Specified path not found”.
Indeed, I do not have an “I:\” drive on my computer. Is there a way to fix this issue ?

What does happen if you compile the same workbook but without activation key enabled?

It works. I needed to create the same protected workbook, but with a key for some customers, and without one for the others.
Here are the different selected options (for both workbooks) :

Application settings

  • Application Title
  • Minimum Excel versions required : 12
  • Password protected
  • Use faster compression

Security

  • Allow secure save
  • Do not prompt users for filename
  • Allow print operations
  • Lock VBA project
  • Prevent access to VBA editor

Customize EXE

  • splash screen, EXE icon and EXE version info have been customized

NB : portable mode is used

I have tried two other options, and the same error occurs.

Option 1 : with a “simple” activation key (non hardware-locked) - the other options are exactly the same
Activation is OK, but the file does not open and I get the following error message : “cannot creat file “x:\Office\KGBAQ\data.gdg”. Specified path not found”

Option 2 - non portable mode - the other options are the same (therefore with hardware-locked key)
Activation OK, but error message when the file is opening “a:\Office\HJE2N\data.gdg”.Specified path not found"

This will tell us whether the problem is local or not.

Two questions:

  • When you get the error message “cannot create file “:i\Office\TH1PG\data.gdg”. Specified path not found”, is Excel started?

  • And do you have an antivirus program? If yes, what is its name?

we have just been told that one of our users also has the problem with the data.gdg path.

Do you have any more information about that specific error and how to get rid of it?

This error just occured after updating to windows10. It worked fine under win8.
