📢 XLS Padlock version 2024.3 is now available on www.xlspadlock.com. This release focuses on improving compatibility, fixing critical bugs, and enhancing your user experience:
  • Fixed Compatibility with Windows 11 24H2 and KB5046740 preview update: Resolved a critical issue affecting workbook functionality due to the latest Windows update preview.
  • Improved User Interface: Several configuration pages have been updated to prepare for upcoming multi-language support and fix display glitches.
  • Refined Key Generation Logic: Fixed bugs related to license key creation, including invalid configurations and zero trial days, ensuring more reliable activation.
  • Manual Deactivation Upgrades: The manual deactivation button is now correctly displayed in all cases if automated deactivation fails, simplifying license management. Moreover, the manual deactivation certificate now includes details like the remaining number of days or runs, enabling you to refund customers accurately for unused portions of their licenses.
  • We fixed an issue with the -deact parameter not compatible with the “Only allow one instance of the protected workbook”.

I find the updates custom user message to be misplaced.
Current process informs the user that there is a new update available, user clicks on Get Update. After the update is downloaded, the custom user message is not visible. The old version opens up as usual. ONLY after the user closes the old version that opened up, the custom update notification shows up, which is useless, a regular user has no idea what version is currently open after get update: is it new or old version?
I see 2 ways to improve:
  • place the custom message directly into Get Update initial message, this way we can notify users from the beginning that they have to close the old version after update and reopen to start using the latest version, or:
  • Better, why not padlock restarts the exe automatically after an update? This way the NEW version will open up after Get Update process, which makes more sense instead of continuing to open the OLD version after Get Update process.

Normally the EXE is restarted automatically after an update. If this is not the case, there may be a problem.
Are you using the latest 2024.3 update?
Have you activated the option “Only allow one instance of the protected workbook”?
 
Yes, using 2024.3, "Only allow one instance of the protected workbook”.
Happens on 2 computers, one with win 10 and win 11.
I think there is a problem, the exe did not restart automatically since 2024.0, after completing the get update, users are still seeing the previous version opening. Only after they close it, next time they open it they see the new version.

It seems that the “Only allow one instance of the protected workbook” option could be the culprit for this problem. We’ll investigate.

Still same thing happens, here is another video that shows what happens during update:
1. Pressing the Get Update Button
2. Old version continues to open
3. I manually close the old version
4. After closing Old version, this is when Custom message shows up.
5. After I click ok on the message, the NEW version finally opens up.

Is there a solution for this bug?
 
Well, in the incoming XLS Padlock 2025, the old version is correctly closed, the custom message shows up and the new version is shown. Even if the “Only allow one instance of the protected workbook” option is on.
So hopefully it will also work in your case. XLS Padlock 2025 is rather a big update, so a lot of things were modified and enhanced.
